British Council Wales is leading the co-ordination and development of Starless and Bible Black, the international programme for the Dylan Thomas 100 Centenary, the anniversary presents an important opportunity for the British Council to complement the work and investment of national partners in Wales.
British Council’s vision for Starless and Bible Black is to ensure that the centenary creates lasting cultural relations and impact by showcasing high quality Welsh work abroad in a spirit of mutuality, exchange and long term partnerships.
In particular we are developing a wide range of activities across Canada, USA, India, Argentina and Australia, to engage new audiences with fresh perspectives on the work of Dylan Thomas and on contemporary Wales. Underpinning the programme will be a worldwide education initiative offering resources and teaching notes for schools and teaching centres with the aim of facilitating dialogue between young people across the world and encouraging them to learn about Dylan Thomas and their own contemporary writers.
